| The Council of Constantinople(381)
What titles which belong to God are not
applied to the Spirit? ... They who say and teach these things, and
moreover call him another Paraclete in the sense of another God (John
14.:16), who know that blasphemy against him along cannot be forgiven
(Matt. 12:3 1), and who branded with such fearful infamy Ananius and
Sapphira for having lied to the Holy Spirit, what do you think of these
men? Do they proclaim the Spirit of God or something else? Now really you
must be extraordinarily dull and far from the Spirit if you have any doubt
about this and need someone to teach you. Gregory of
Nazianzus, Fifth Theological Oration, 30,29. |
